What you’ll learn
The course is a mix of knowledge development, skill practice, and realistic scenarios. You’ll develop:
• Self-rescue techniques – recognize and respond to your own stress underwater.
• Diver stress management – spot problems early and provide assistance.
• Emergency response skills – assist tired, panicked, or unresponsive divers at the surface and underwater.
• Rescue scenarios – practice managing real-life dive emergencies with your instructor, from missing divers to first aid at the surface.
Who can join?
• Minimum age: 12 years (12–14 earn the Junior Rescue Diver certification).
• Certification required: PADI Advanced Open Water Diver (or equivalent).
• EFR (Emergency First Response) Primary & Secondary Care certification (or equivalent) completed within the past 24 months.
• Good overall health and fitness for diving.
Course duration
Typically completed in 3 days, depending on conditions and your pace.
